I have always enjoyed taking photos from being a young boy when I helping with black and white printing with my father. Rather than a strict area of work I am more driven by inspiration. Recently mainly my young grandchildren.
I have always been fascinated when observing other cultures especially when they continue to wear their traditional dress.
I worked in Namibia with the San tribe which is the oldest in the world and under several threats. They are gentle and outstanding in what they do, but lack dull stuff like punctuality and remaining in post when they have an urge to visit relations.
Occasionally I drove to the north west of Namibia to another interesting tribe, the Himba who still cling to their traditional way of life. Photographing dark skin in the full sun is tricky so I tried to work in the shade or in their huts. All photographs are copyright of Tim Thornton.
