Celebrating
the diversity of the natural history in the UK A
brand new international photography competition, the prestigious
British Wildlife Photography Awards
celebrates and recognise the talents of photographers of all
nationalities practicing in the UK while, at the same time,
highlighting the great wealth and diversity of the natural
history of the British Isles. At a time when we're
increasingly conscious of the importance of wildlife, habitat
and conservation, the Awards encourages photographers, whether
professional or enthusiast, to explore Britain’s natural and
urban environments, and discover its bounty of wildlife species,
from birds to mammals, insects to marine life. |

Pickering Tourist Information Centre |
There are
three officially networked Tourist Information Centres in
Ryedale, in Helmsley, Malton and Pickering. Our Tourist
Information Centre staff are dedicated to providing a high
standard of service and this has been recognised on a number of
occasions with the Enjoy England "England’s TIC of the Year"
award being made to one of our TICs on several occasions, in
addition to many ‘Yorkshire White Rose Awards’, the latest of
which Malton TIC won in 2010.
The staff at each centre have built up a
wealth of experience and knowledge to help you get the most from
your visit to the area. Contact them before your visit or whilst
you are here for information on accommodation, attractions,
events and activities in the area. For accommodation enquiries
you can either complete the
accommodation
enquiry form,
e-mail us
or telephone the

Although most of the information you need to
plan a holiday in Ryedale can be found within this site, nothing
beats the personal touch, and the staff at Ryedale’s Tourist
Information Centres are happy to discuss and advise you on
particular requirements or special interests.

The Photographer's
Ephemeris is a program to assist the planning of landscape
photography. Landscape photographers typically wish to plan
their shoots around the times of sunrise/sunset or twilight, or
alternatively when the moon is in a particular place in a
particular phase. While times of sunrise etc. are readily
available on various sites on the internet (direction of sunrise
etc. less so, but still readily found), there are fewer programs
available which combine such information with a topographical
map allowing the photographer to match the astronomical to the
location. A typical use might be to determine when the sun will
set along the axis of a mountain valley, or when a full moon
rise will rise across a lake. Program by Stephen Trainor.
User interface design by Alison Craig and Stephen Trainor. |
