Hi Everyone, this self portrait was taken last September on my 75th birthday.(2009/1934). The Donald came about as I was born in the Donald Bradman era…(DEFINITELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DUCK!) My first “real”…SLR camera ,1970,was a Pentax Spotmatic mk2.This had the screw type mount for the lens & while leaning over the Filey promenade railings at high tide photographing the sea foam I found the 28mm lens in one hand & the camera body in the other!!!!!!! I quickly changed to a “click” mounted lens/body & that was the start of 15 years with Olympus. After spending over thirty years with a wet darkroom, making large colour prints in drums and many duplicate transparencies on Ektachrome film for AV shows, it came as a great revelation to me starting in Photoshop 5.5 seven years ago. My longstanding affair with AV started back in the 70s.Colin Balls gave a series of lectures in Wetherby, North Yorks, and when at the end of one of his presentations he made a “still” shot of an owl WINK…I was hooked on AV and now in the digital age the hooking is more so. I gained a CPAGB four years ago & the LRPS two years ago. I would like to thank all the really helpful members of Kirkbymoorside & District Camera Club for their assistance, without which I don’t think I would have gained these awards. As for my future print work I shall continue with mainly close-ups,& possibly slightly abstract images with a little more help from Photoshop. Since retiring in 1998 I have suffered spinal disabilities which rule me out for walking far. BUT as I have always been keen on macro photography & gardening the two hobbies compliment each other. (Vis…the hat & the plant in the pic were presents & combined with photography (Cannon) sum up my hobbies.) Good shooting(?) & best wishes, Don (Waller). |
